The Mind Is A Trickster
The fast route to mastering Meditation is, from this moment on, to not take any of your thoughts seriously. Whether they are good thoughts, bad, thoughts, ugly thoughts, fantasies of your favourite movie star, judgements about your partner’s bum or hair or choice of clothing, the fact you’d like to punch (insert arch enemy) in the face, that you need to do this, that, the other to be loved, to be accepted, to feel worthy, to get (mostly unimportant) stuff done, etc.. etc.. etc.. and on.. and on.. and on.. and on goes the chitter chatter of the mind.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that you ignore them either, or try to shut them out. Some may be your intuition, the whisperings of your Heart, that great creative idea that you can’t quite hear beyond all the worries and fears and must do’s and must have’s. There is still the necessity for critical thinking. There is still the need to address “Special Thoughts” (with a therapist of necessary). We’ll talk about them another time.
Over time we learn discernment. We are learning to listen for what is REALLY important to us, to hear our Soul’s song and let all the rest be emptied in the trash bin! That’s really what Mediation does. It empties out all the useless, unhelpful data from your nervous system, which is highly beneficial for the body too. There is less build up of stress.
TRAP NUMBER 1: THE MIND WILL CONVINCE YOU THAT THOUGHTS ARE IMPORTANT WHEN THEY ARE NOT

In Meditation Cafe I help you find the Space Beyond the chatter. We enter into Meditation via the Heart. We create Heart Words that become the vehicles to carry us beyond the chatter. Thoughts will come and when you notice, back you come to the Space. To come back to the Space, first you need to learn to recognise what it is. It’s really not very far away at all and yet it can appear elusive. That journey is called “The journey of no distance”.
WAKE UP Wake UpFrom 1000 slumbers It matters not how many times Wake UpFrom 1000 slumbers Celebrate 1000 times Wake UpAnd 1000 petals Blossom into Love Divine Wake UpAnd 1000 journeys In a moment take no time Ā© The Bendy Witch
With regular practice, awareness of this Space Beyond, grows. It’s like the more attention you give it eyes closed, the more it grows in your awareness eyes open. You can practice eyes open Mediation too. The effects are accumulative which is why starting and maintaining a regular Meditation practice is a very good idea indeed.
See what happens, when you close your eyes for Meditation and let ANY thought, no matter the content, just be a thought. What happens if you don’t grab onto it, don’t analyse it, don’t start a dialogue with it, don’t get frustrated with it (or tell it to F off), don’t work out why you are thinking that thought, don’t make it good or bad, don’t make it “Special”, especially if its a thought about an ex you “thought” you were over. You are.. unless you grab that thought. Or maybe you have suppressed feelings to release and that thought is doing you a favour…
I guarantee you all these things will happen at some point when you close your eyes, even if you set the intention for them not too. It really doesn’t have to be a big deal. When you notice the above happening come back! Even if it’s for the teeniest weeniest split second, come back. All those little spaces add up.
“Come back to where?” you say. To the “Space beyond” I say. Which is really the Present moment. What is real Now when you are Present beyond the surface of your Mind. It is the Nature of the Mind to drift. It’s not wrong or bad. You are just giving too much attention to the driftwood and not enough attention to the Ocean carrying it. This is the shift that Mediation makes.
If you’ve never tried to Meditate this may not make much sense to you. If you’d like to give Meditation a try, now knowing you don’t have to stop your thoughts, that you just have to learn not to take the majority of them seriously, then it would be great to see you in the Mediation Cafe.
If you already have a Mediation practice and would like the opportunity to play and share your experience, you are most welcome to join us:
