Meditation Cafe: The Balance of Giving & Receiving

First blog for while and still keeping it short. Since my last blog a few weeks ago I’ve moved onto a narrowboat. I’m still unpacking and sorting what’s necessary and what’s not. There’s no room for the superfluous in a narrow boat!

On Mondays in our Telegram group, there’s always a invitation to create a Heart Word Mantra for, “Just this week”. Mine is Generosity and inspired our theme for tonights Meditation Cafe, the balance between giving and receiving.

We tend to think of generosity as an external experience and related to giving. Yet in order for someone to give, there has to be a person on the other willing to receive.

Often for me, after the Heart words present themselves, over the coming hours they blossom like little flowers to reveal the deeper meanings (relating to my experience) as to why they have popped in to say Hi!

I have been contemplating what generosity of Spirit looks like, how we can be generous with out time for those relationships we want to nurture (and to survive!), how generosity is absolutely not over giving and it’s not giving with exception of getting something back.

Generosity feels to me like water in it’s most nourishing form. Sometimes it’s me doing the watering and sometimes I’m in need of it.

This morning I found myself on the receiving ends of generosity as a neighbour stepped in, tested and repaired a gas leak, wanting nothing for his time. I am very Grateful as I’m off to the annual Long Dance this year and again part of the practical team.

The Summer Long Dance is a not for profit flagship event and is the beating heart of the Movement Medicine community in which we dance our gratitude and prayers for Life. The Long Dance is a 72-hour ceremony. Before the ceremony, we have time to prepare and afterwards, time to integrate. The Summer Long Dance ceremony is a way to join in deep community to dance, sing, heal and pray together for all our relations. It is also a fundraiser for the Fundacion Pachamama (Sacred Headwaters Project) supporting them in their work for the game changing work to protect the forest and headwaters of the Amazon river, working with and being led by the vision of the indigenous peoples themselves.

Part of our individual commitment to participate in the dance is to raise £400 for a local charity. This year I have chosen The Pink Rooster Charity.

If you feel called to support me as I dance and keep the site (including the compost loos!) clean and flowing, please help me reach my target by donating here:

Pink Rooster aims to be the leading charitable organisation based in Northampton UK providing music creative arts and assistive technology countywide and beyond, to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and groups living with dementia and other mental health and physical barriers.
