Following the “I haven’t got time to Meditate” thought is one of the biggest trap doors to sabotaging your Meditation practice. Occasionally it may be true and yet the majority of the time, well, it simply isn’t true. It is more likely that you’re prioritising other things that your mind deems more important, so there is an opportunity here to see and be really honest about that. Let’s look a bit more deeply.
You already know that when you Meditate regularly and consistently you are less reactive and more productive. You know that it also gives you powers of discernment to know what is truly correct for you. You know all the health benefits and healing that come from consistent practice, yet still, “I haven’t got time”.

Now make a list (even if it’s just mentally because you haven’t got time) of things you make time for, whether consciously or unconsciously, that you absolutely know are not helpful to your harmonious functioning as a human being.
This is not an exercise in shame, it’s an exercise in honesty, and should feelings of shame arise don’t push them aside, welcome them and fully accept and own that you appear to make these unhealthy choices with your time day after day. I say appear because many of the things on your list will likely be addictive, like doom scrolling social media and netflix binging, so it is fair to say that often you are not consciously choosing, it’s a compulsion. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Netflix binge.. occasionally..
The question is, are you willing to give up 20 mins of these things on your list daily to do a practice that helps you to be more conscious, more heart centred, more productive so WHATEVER you are choosing to do it becomes more intentional?
So when you catch yourself thinking, “I haven’t got time to Meditate” celebrate! Do a snoopy dance, then sit your ass down, close your eyes and Meditate, if possible, as the old zen saying goes, for longer than you usually do, just to prove a point!

The effects of Meditation are accumulative. You won’t experience the effects fully until you make it as non-negotiable as cleaning your teeth. It is actually cleaning and helping to regulate your nervous system. Surely this is as important as your teeth.
Remember it doesn’t matter what happen when you close your eyes. It doesn’t matter if your mind is busy or silent. It doesn’t matter if you fall asleep. It matters to your body and your mind that you make it a priority and do it anyway. Once your practice is consistent, if you miss a session, there is no need to beat yourself either. Just when you notice it’s becoming a habit to not Meditate, it’s often a sign you are moving into the stress state that Meditation helps alleviate.
