Meditation Cafe: Beyond Belief

Don’t believe your thoughts. It’s also sensible to not automatically believe other peoples. A hard lesson for many of us that have not followed through on our own intuition because another professes to know better.

Thoughts are not a solid foundation on which to base your reality and I’m gonna go out on limb here and say nor is science. If you look at science over a long time span you will see how even scientific beliefs change when new “data” comes to light, which is often revealed in how things play out in real time experience, not just in theory.

Discern thoughts yes! Believe them, no! Some are useful, some are not. Most are subjective. Yes you will form beliefs and likely already have many. Can you let them remain open? Can you let your beliefs be a starting point not a fixed point? Can you hold them lightly, not turn them to stone?

I’m not saying you should change your opinion at every new piece of data you receive (remember the don’t automatically listen to others thoughts bit!). I’m saying to practice discernment, especially with your own mind.

Don’t believe anything I say. Discern these words. If they serve you in some way play with them, you may agree, you may not. If not leave them be…

Our Self Enquiry this week is based around beliefs that keep us small, that disrupt our ability to see clearly the Truth of who we are beyond our beliefs. As we Meditate, the ripples on the surface of the mind become less of a distraction, we begin to experience the Silence and stillness of deeper waters. Here we find our treasure, pearls of Wisdom that emanate from the Heart.

As we start to see beyond the movement of the mind, beyond beliefs, we begin to see clearer reflections in the living world of what actually is happening beyond the projections that the mind throws in front of us.

Can you be open to what you cannot yet see and what you do not yet know? Can you share your beliefs with a curiosity that there may be more?

I know for myself, shifting from a, “This is how it is!” mentality too “This is where I’m currently at”, has made a huge difference to my ability to communicate what I’m experiencing in a less confrontational way.

What beliefs have you turned to stone? What stones do you throw at others?

We enter Meditation through the portal of the Heart, because it supports us in having Compassion for ourselves when we meet the uncomfortableness that we have indeed been limiting ourselves. We have to face the, “Why didn’t I see this sooner” thoughts. We might have to admit that current beliefs are actually down right wrong in the face of new information. We might have to accept we are using our beliefs to avoid facing an uncomfortable Truth and even to manipulate and coerce others.

It takes a brave Soul to go there and in doing so we grow the virtue of Humility its most beautiful form. This has nothing to do with the common dictionary meaning that says Humility is, “the quality of having a modest or low view of one’s importance”. It is more accurately the ability to accurately view your talents and flaws while being void of arrogance. There’s a big difference.

We use Self Enquiry to create a chariot of fire (in the form of a Mantra) that dis-creates and literally starts to burn up the beliefs that keep us small, distracted and separated from the Wisdom of our Heart and our Gut instincts.
