Meditation Cafe: Body Mind Connection

When we sit for Meditation, our Heart Word Mantras carry our body into a state of rest. When the body is at rest it begins to heal. Healing is an active process, which can look like thoughts arising in the mind. Many people see “busy” Meditations, ie lots of thoughts arising as a “bad” Meditation and when they have less awareness of thoughts as “good”. If you’ve ever been to a Meditation Cafe or previously learnt Ascension Meditation, you will at some point have heard me use the analogy of the chimney lid.

As thoughts arise they are like the smoke. As we say our Heart Word Mantra or Ascension Attitude, it’s like the chimney lid opens and lets a bit of smoke out as some stress leaves our body. As our mind drifts again, the lid drops and the smoke again accumulates. As we again become aware of our thinking, we say our Mantra or Attitude, the lid lifts and some more smoke/stress in our body leaves. As you can imagine, 20 minutes of doing this releases a significant amount of stress from your body and nervous system.

A lady who attended my last Angel Cosmology workshop, due to her experience there, joined us for the live Meditation Cafe. She has since reported to committing to a 20 minutes a day practice and that she loves it so much she is aware of disappointment when the 20 minutes is up. This is a common response.

20 minutes seems a long time to Meditate to someone that thinks they can’t do it because they can’t stop their thoughts for 1 minute let alone 20! Working with the mind, not against it, takes this pressure off and is literally like releasing a pressure valve.

Instead of getting frustrated that your closed eyes practice is “busy”, get excited that you’ve released a lot of stress from you body. The instructions are simple. There is no requirement for there to be anything happening other than what is actually happening, whether thats a lot of thoughts or very little.

As our body starts to release stress, it’s not usual for us to feel sensations in our body of energy moving, or at places where there has been injury. If this happens we meet the discomfort with as much Love and awareness as we can muster. Sometimes aches and pain disappear. Sometimes areas are flagged up in Meditation as we are invited to take some external action to support the body part that we may have been neglecting. In Meditation we get a chance to hear the body speak.

Moving the body regularly alongside your eyes closed practice, keep the energies flowing and moving in the body. Yoga asana, Movement Medicine, Tai Chi or simply mindful walks in Nature are great ways to support your body and your Meditation practice.

I personally notice that when my Meditation starts to feel a bit sluggish, it usually corresponds with me not balancing my eyes closed time with movement practices.
