If you find yourself over-thinking your Meditation practice, it’s time to come back to basics. The basic mechanics of Meditation are:
- Your mind drifts into unconscious thinking
- You notice you are thinking
- You come back to the Present moment
You don’t just do this once and not ever have a thought again. Sorry if you thought that’s how this game works. The main problem I see with people “trying” to Meditate is that they are “trying” too hard to force thoughts to stop.

This alternative path of returning or “coming home” to oneself, is not only easy to apply but can be enjoyable if only you can remember that you aren’t trying to stop anything and you consciously make the choice to stop making thoughts a problem.
Learning Meditation doesn’t mean you’re never going to not feel again, in fact it can make you more acutely aware of feelings. It will, over time, support you to be okay with whatever you’re feeling, to become more discerning, authentic and (if you practice a Heart centred type of Meditation like we do here) more connected to your Heart. You know that beautiful organ beating in your chest that lets you know you’re still alive.
While you’re alive in this particular body, you may as well align your attention in such a way that you can actually see and appreciate the beauty of this Earth; whether you think it’s just a matrix, flat or round, I don’t really care.
What I care about is that you don’t become disconnected from your Heart (as I know first hand that’s not pleasant) and you don’t become disconnected from your Humanity and become a robot or a zombie. If you feel like either of those two things, if you have become disconnected from your Heart, then maybe these practices can guide you back to it and relieve a little stress from your body at the same time.

Please check out updates on upcoming in-person Meditation events on The Silent Revolution page and if you’d like to be entertained by myself and another ex Meditation Monk, please check out the next Saturday Night @ The OM in Northampton, UK, where I’m joined by award-winning singer-songwriter Ch’Lu.
