Let’s get one thing straight. Meditation IS Yoga. What we refer to as Yoga here in the West, is Yoga Asana, Asana meaning “posture”. There are many branches on the tree of Yoga that all support the healthy blossoming of the tree. We shall explore these branches on another blog.

One meaning of the word Yoga is, “to yoke”. Many people practice Yoga in the form of Meditation to become “Free”. This pursuit of Freedom and ideals of what Freedom looks like, can lead many sincere seekers on a never ending path of “not quite there”, Freedom seeming so close, like a word that’s on the tip of tongue but you can’t quite remember it. Yoga Asana as is practiced by many today does nothing to alleviate this “not quite” miasma.
I find it interesting that and English definition of Yoke, found in the Cambridge dictionary is “something that connects two things or people, usually in a way that unfairly limits freedom: the yoke of marriage”
Yoga is a Divine marriage. The “ego” as the illusory self is subjugated to the true Self, that we may experience our “Original Face”. Check out my poem The Beloved.
Yoga Asana, for me will always be the support to my Meditation practice. Yoga postures support my physical body in staying healthy, keeps my energy flowing, and helps me to practice moving with the Stillness I am cultivating through my eyes closed Meditation practice. My emphasis and reason for practicing is always to experience Presence.
Tonight in Meditation Cafe our self enquiry will be exploring what Heart qualities will s support our physical body and our health.
