Sober Retake “Let’s Talk” Podcast

Yesterday I was invited to talk with Ian of Sober Retake on his “Let’s Talk” podcast. I can’t actually remember what I said, lol, so I will be listening along again later with you. I do know that we covered a lot of unexpected ground, including the challenges of neurodiversity.

Ian removed alcohol from his life on the 25/8/2020 and has never regretted a single second. His podcast is to connect with other sober warriors, to sober chat about the challenges and amazing opportunities that sobriety has to offer.

I had no idea when he called me that we would record there and then or what we would be talking about, other than it may be related to being sober, so it’s really off the cuff! I’d never met or spoken to Ian before and he made the conversation really easy. It becomes a talk about how to get beyond being “sober”.

I was reminded of a poem I wrote in 2014 called Spirit Imposter. I know it’s helped at least two people choose to enter rehab and I also know it has triggered the f*ck out of some others! It’s quite brutal to the reality of alcohol abuse and what it’s like to live with someone addicted to alcohol. To read it click here.

My relationship to alcohol has not really ever been healthy. I used to use it, like many, to self medicate, to be able to speak in social situations and appear “normal”, if there is such a thing. Now I choose to not drink alcohol and you will hear a bit about why and when I made that choice on the podcast and how it became an easy choice once I got clear on what I wanted.
