Meditation Cafe: The Crack Where the Light Gets In

There was a moment yesterday, a sudden crack of light bursting through the clouds. The kind that makes you stop mid-step, like something is speaking to you, without words.

It brought to mind a line from Rumi:
“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”

And of course, Leonard Cohen:
“There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”

Then something quieter underneath that. A remembering, that same light isn’t just trying to get in. It’s trying to shine out.

BREAKTHROUGH

Radiance shines through
Revealing eternity
Amongst life’s chaos

If only we could look upon our own cracks with the same awe and wonder as a sky split open by light!

We spend so much time bracing for the next storm.

Preparing. Anticipating. Trying to control something that has never once asked for our permission to arrive.

The sky mirrors perfectly our experience:

Now the sun shines.
Now a cloud drifts in.
Now a storm.
Now calm.
Now the sun returns.

There is a rhythm to it.
A quiet, undeniable truth.

If you look at your own life, I mean really look, you’ll see the evidence. You have always come out the other side.

Maybe a little dishevelled. Hopefully a little wiser. Maybe repeating the same patterns again and again and again, and yet each time you see a little more, you get to know yourself a little better, until one day you shift sooner.

You see the the red flag, notice the storm clouds gathering, feel the heaviness in the air and something inside you says, “Ah… I know this one”.

Maybe, just maybe, in that moment you love yourself enough to choose differently, to step away, to seek shelter until the storm passes.

Maybe you’ll choose to dance in the rain instead, because sometimes healing doesn’t look like avoidance. Sometimes it looks like stripping everything off, letting the rain soak through you, allowing the elements to reinvigorate you, to let life touch you fully again as you rekindle an ancient memory..

A time when there was no separation
between you and the earth,
between you and spirit.

Just experience.
Just aliveness.

There’s actually something quite grounding in knowing this:

Research in psychology shows that humans are far more resilient than we believe. Studies on emotional resilience suggest that even after significant stress or challenge, most people naturally return to a baseline of wellbeing over time. A process known as psychological homeostasis.

In other words…

Your system already knows how to come back to balance.
You are built for it.

So the real question becomes:

Will you spend your life bracing for the next storm?

Or will you learn to recognise the return of the sun when it’s already here?

Because sometimes the “crack” isn’t something to fix. It’s the opening, the expansion, the moment life asks you to outgrow who you thought you were.

When an identity no longer fits, it can feel like breaking.

But it isn’t breaking.

It’s becoming.

You can stay contained, wrapped safely in the familiar, held tightly in beliefs that once protected you.

Or…

You can let yourself crack open.

Let the light in.
Let the light out.

Trust that what’s emerging is more you than anything you’ve been holding onto.
