Meditation Cafe: Finding Glimpses Of Joy In Times Of Turmoil

Joy can seem elusive in the face of discontent and wars raging around us. It’s important to stay centred in your Heart at these times, lest you get swept away in a tsunami of fears, worries and grief.

Humans have been at war with each other for millennia. The media is content to fuel the fire of warmongering and fear without taking any responsibility for the effect it’s reporting has on the mass population.

I’m absolutely not saying that you should pretend that there is nothing awful happening in the world. You may well have genuine fears of rising costs, as well as grief arising over the deaths of innocent humans and a sense of helplessness of things that are beyond your control.

What you can control is how you meet these fears and emotions, for you are not necessarily in control of what is arising in your awareness, especially in these times of extreme and strong emotions prevalent in the universal nervous system. You might like to not want to be affected by these things but in Truth most of us are and rightly so if we are empathic human beings.

Keeping Joy alive in your experience in such times is paramount to your mental health and wellbeing and your ability to care for those here and now that are dependant on your nurturing, care and capacity to function day to day.

Wars and destruction pull our attention so far out that we lose sight of what is still intact right in front of us. Here’s where practices such as Meditation can help. They act like an anchor into our Heart, to whats real and important in our immediate surroundings as well as creating a solid internal foundation from which our prayers for those suffering the devastation of war and loss can emerge.

Through breath awareness, Heart focused Meditation practice and consciously choosing to repeatedly dip our attention in our inherently naturally Joyful inner state, we keep our vision clear and our Heart open to experience the simple Joys of life, such as our kids smiling, a spring flower blossoming, a clear nights sky sparkling with stars, a sunrise or sunset. These type of Joy are often right in front of us, yet in fear and worry we may become blind to them.

From a place of Heart-Mind coherence our prayers for Peace emanate with Love and help calm our fears. We keep the balance. We keep the spirit of Joy alive amongst the tears of grief that may arise for those that at this time are suffering.

Heart centred Meditation helps us to behold extremes of feeling within a field of compassionate and wise awareness, that is beyond what our mind alone struggles to understand, reconcile and comprehend.

We cry if we need to, we pray, we meet the discomfort of not knowing whilst staying open to the simplicity and awe of Mother Nature whom is still doing her thing, despite the utter stupidity and disrespect of this beautiful planet that is a virus in the Hearts of some arrogant, indoctrinated and greedy men.

Meditation turns our awareness inwards to the Wisdom of our Heart where we find the courage to speak out. We turn inwards to protect our own Heart from the bitterness and distorted sense of entitlement plaguing the perception of the war mongers in these times. We turn inwards to our Heart to keep kindness alive any way we can (and that might just start with being kind to ourselves). That kindness may look like discernment and setting boundaries when we need to.

Know, as a human, whatever your thoughts, whatever your beliefs, you are in my prayers. I pray for the emergence of kindness to awaken in all human hearts.
